There’s nothing like the core memories from Girl Scout cookie sales growing up. I lived in Kentucky, Ecuador and Texas as a Girl Scout and loved knocking on neighbors’ doors, celebrating at booths outside our local grocery stores (where I learned how to count change) and earning the cute patches and honors I still have on my vest to this day.
To be honest, when I started getting the texts in December for my first year of cookie sales as a Girl Scout Mom, my first response was “shhhhh..” Once I got organized, though, and set expectations with my Girl Scout Junior it’s become a lot of fun.
I love seeing my little Girl Scout learn the processes. She’s handling and packaging all of her orders herself and including a note with her gratitude. Her confidence grows each time she completes a delivery, and she’s amazed to see the names come in from friends and family on her online ordering form - this ships across America or can let Heidi know you would like yours personally delivered. :)
Having the cookies around the house inspired me to make good use of them besides my chosen method of support right now of leaving a box in the console of my car.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, I thought, “How nice would it be to use my Girl Scout cookies for upcoming parties and plans?” So, I’ll have to share more if my inspiration continues, but for now I am so thrilled with how my Thin Mint Love Bugs turned out.
Thin Mint Love Bugs
I used:
Girl Scouts Thin Mints - this link supports our Troop, thank you!
Sprinkles - lucky to have some this pink along with the hearts leftover from work
I melted the candy wafers in a double broiler I made with my Dutch oven an Pyrex bowl - you can also use a microwave to melt the candy wafers, but I do like the stove because I can keep the melt at the right consistency and turn it up or down if I feel like I need to. I stir this a lot with a wooden spoon to help it along and get the right consistency.
Once the melted candy is nice and thin, I dipped each Thin Mint in the melted candy, not being too leisurely about it because the chocolate coating on the Thin Mint can also melt if it’s in too long.
Once I pulled the Thin Mint our Pyrex bowl, I laid it on the cooling rack and then dusted the sprinkles on top and added the eye balls where they were sure to touch the melted red candy so they would stick well as they dried.
And I’m almost embarrassed to say that is literally it! These were so cute and I love how many Thin Mints come in a box, so I can really crank some out for a party or to put in some small bags in groups for gifting.
What do you love to do with Girl Scout cookie besides just eat them non-stop? It’s only once a year!
