My Favorite Spiced Coffee Recipe
A hot cup gets even warmer thanks to a blend of classic pantry spices.
One word of wisdom I learned while becoming a one-woman show is to treat my future self well as often as I can. As Jen Hatmaker has put it, morning me makes the bed for when evening me comes home from work. And no matter how beat I am at the end of the day, evening me closes the kitchen at night by making the next day’s cup of coffee. When that early morning alarm goes off, I’m consistently lured out of bed by the comforting idea that a hot cup of coffee is only one button push away.
Striking out on my own, I had to develop my new house blend. Doing just a little research, I started adding some household spices to my grounds to kick up the flavor and heat just a bit that make my mornings feel just a bit more worldly and luxurious.
Instead of dealing with all the spice jars every day, I like to throw it all together when I get a fresh can of coffee and store it in my personable air tight jars. Here’s my blend, but try it out for yourself and consult your doctor before ever kicking it up too much.
Spiced Coffee Grounds Recipe
Cafe Du Monde Coffee and chickory - My Mom lived in New Orleans in college so we revere this as the world’s best cup of coffee.
1 tsp nutmeg
four whole cloves
I love the flavor the chickory and spices add to my cup and feel good that they also are known for anti-inflammatory and natural blood sugar regulation, two things I always need help with!
Once it’s hot and brewed I pour a cup in my flea market mug. It’s bold and flavorful hot but if I’m feeling luxurious I add the following:
large spoonful of collagen protein
I used to mix it in a blender but the cleaning was really getting me down. Life changed for my mornings when I bought this hand frother that is so easy to clean and makes everything fluffy in a flash.
What about you? What makes the perfect cup of coffee? Cheers!
